What we’re all about

I started this blog to document my findings on the cosmetics industry.  In here you’ll find information on what those unpronounceable ingredients really are, as well as tips and information to help us all become more informed consumers.

I became interested in this subject while sitting on the toilet (I’m told this is where all great epiphanies occur).  I broke my back in January and was unable to do much except sit around and twiddle my thumbs a lot.  After reading every book in my house I started reading other things, including the ingredient lists of everything in my bathroom.   At first I was confounded by what I was reading; I had no idea what 99.9% of this stuff was.  I brought one of the bottles out to the living room with me, propped myself up with a bunch of pillows, grabbed my laptop, and started web-searching every ingredient on the back of the bottle.

To say I was surprised at what I learned would be an understatement.  I felt a whirlwind of emotions!  I felt shocked, confused, disgusted, angry, and above all else I truly felt betrayed.   This moment of truth is the inspiration behind this blog, as well as the inspiration for my soon-to-be company (which I am also writing a blog about - check the blogroll for the link!).

I hope you find this blog informative & useful.  I have learned a lot in my determination to write it & I’m thrilled to be able to pass my knowledge along!
